What is Alone?

Alone is a survivalist reality series in which ten contestants are dropped into an unfriendly wilderness for a chance to demonstrate their primitive skills and win a grand prize by being the last one standing.

In this contest, contestants can only bring ten items to battle the elements. These are the only tools they have to build a shelter, get food, and survive in complete isolation for as long as they can.

Each contestant has to deal with similar terrain, but they are far enough apart that they will never meet.

They are truly alone, as the title implies. The competitors film themselves with no camera crew. In triumphant moments, such as when Clay shoots a buck with his bow and arrow in season 8, the viewer feels as if they are witnessing something divine.

It’s more like watching a found-footage horror movie in the darker moments when participants are gagging down foraged snails and algae—visible to us via their cameras’ night vision mode.
